Frequently asked questions
- How much does a kitchen or bathroom remodel cost in Winchester?
It depends on the size of the room, what moves, and the finishes you choose, which is why we do not quote from a phone call. At the free consultation we talk budget honestly, and the written estimate is built from the actual plan. A tighter budget can still get a clean, functional, custom result.
- How long does a remodel take?
It depends on the scope. A bathroom and a whole home renovation are very different projects. We talk through timing at the consultation, once we know what the project involves.
- Do I need permits, and do you get them?
Most structural, plumbing and electrical work needs a permit. We pull the permits the work needs and schedule the inspections.
- Can we live in the house during the remodel?
Most families do. We plan the work to keep the rest of the house livable, close off the work area and clean up at the end of each day. If it is your only kitchen or full bath, we talk through a temporary setup at the consultation.
- What does the free consultation cover?
A look at the space, a conversation about how you use it and what you want, and an honest talk about budget. It happens at your house or at our showroom. There is no charge.
- Do you have a designer, or do I need to hire one?
We have designers on staff. Caroline Wingenbach, who holds an Interior Design degree from VCU, and our design team lead the planning on our projects.
- What is a groutless shower?
A shower built from large solid panels instead of small tiles, so there are no grout lines to scrub, stain or reseal. See groutless showers.
- Can you make my bathroom safer for aging in place?
Yes. Curbless showers, seats, grab bars, comfort height fixtures and better lighting, designed so the room still looks good. See accessible bathrooms.
- Do you work on historic homes?
Yes. Historic and structural renovations are a big part of what we do. See whole home renovations.
- Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We are a Class A licensed contractor in Virginia and insured on every job.
- Which towns do you serve?
Winchester and Frederick County, plus Stephens City, Middletown, Front Royal, Berryville, Strasburg, Purcellville, Leesburg, Charles Town and Martinsburg. See the service area.
- Where is your showroom?
At 603 S Loudoun St in downtown Winchester, home of The Sidney Renovation Shop.
